Yesterday I celebrated one year cancer-free with homemade meatballs and spaghetti and a bottle of champagne with Suzanne. Yes, irony is alive and well in our home.
Maybe because yesterday I was really busy, but I feel more reflective today than I did yesterday. Maybe a remembrance of things past.
There are a couple people who deserve thanks for the past year, the first being Suzanne. The fact that she stayed by my side through it all was amazing. That I still get to wake up with her every day makes it all worthwhile.
Annie, my daughter, was amazing. Watching her dad go through cancer couldn’t have been easy, and she took it with great attention, grace, and aplomb. I love you, kid.
Dr. Dubovsky and his team and the rest of the folks at Atlanta Cancer Care deserve a shout out, too. I had my one-year checkup with him recently, and it amazed me that down to the receptionist at the door who sees a hundred people a day, easily, they remembered by name, and treated me amazingly well. Particular shout-outs to Lisa and Farah in Dr. D’s office.
There are more of you who helped me in so many ways – too many to mention here. Thanks all of you.
